APPROACH: We built an IMM framework tracking nine stakeholder groups with mapped impact pathways across all initiatives. Applied ABC impact classification to inform strategic resource allocation. Delivered a project-level measurement tool enabling group-level aggregation and dashboard visualisation.

CHALLENGE: How do we equip growth-stage ventures with the knowledge to apply impact measurement and management in ways that are investor-useful and partner-ready?

APPROACH: As Senior Technical Advisor and Accredited SDG Impact Standards practitioner in the SDG Venture Scaler by UNDP and the Temasek Trust, we applied the SDG Impact Standards across ventures spanning agriculture, renewable energy and nature-based solutions in Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Established baseline metrics, defined Theory of Change, and coached each venture to communicate impact in pitch-ready ways.

CHALLENGE: How do we embed sustainability into long-term growth and unlock new market opportunities through a circular business model?

APPROACH: We conducted a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) integrating financial and impact perspectives, engaging 2,000+ retail consumers and stakeholders . Developed a long-term sustainability strategy and impact narrative, as part of the brand narrative, endorsed by the Board, with focus areas including traceability of raw materials and circularity.

APPROACH: We served as Knowledge and Strategy Partner to the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. Engaged 2,000+ multi-sector stakeholders, corporates, SMEs, NGOs, government, universities and the general public. Localised international sustainability standards for the Hong Kong context. First year saw 3,500+ enterprises tracking their performance under a unified framework.

Tracking Sustainable Consumption Across Asia Through Five Years of Independent Primary Research
CHALLENGE: How do consumers in Asia understand sustainability, and which priorities and actions genuinely resonate with them?

APPROACH: We engaged 13,500+ retail customers across multiple industries over five years through quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, identifying the sustainability attributes most valued by each brand's target consumers. Findings revealed a linear correlation between sustainability performance and consumer trust, with 49% having reduced or stopped purchases from brands lacking sustainability focus and 78% having paid more for sustainable products or services.

CHALLENGE: How do we cultivate the next generation of impact measurement and management practitioners through applied learning?

APPROACH: We developed and delivered the course 'Strategic Sustainability Integration in Business and Investment' within the MSc in Environmental Management programme. The course centres on the SDG Impact Standards developed by UNDP, covering foundational IMM concepts, the five dimensions of impact, ABC impact classification, impact value chains, and the 12 Enterprise Actions.

CHALLENGE: How do we develop a credible decarbonisation pathway and connect climate strategy to business growth across a 77,000-person global enterprise?

APPROACH: We measured Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to develop a comprehensive inventory, then conducted climate scenario analysis to assess physical and transition risks alongside transition opportunities. Worked with the company through SBTi validation of its near-term and long-term targets, with climate strategy now linked to growth planning across operating regions.

CHALLENGE: How does a company prove that a "more environmentally friendly" product is genuinely greener?

APPROACH: We conducted an ISO 14040/44 cradle-to-gate Life-Cycle Assessment of recycled gold, verifying input materials and quantifying carbon emissions impact. Findings informed the carbon credit strategy and supported the launch of the first carbon-neutral gold in Japan.

CHALLENGE: How does a public financial institution build the internal capability to measure, manage and demonstrate the impact of its policies and investment facilities, and translate that into credibility with international funders?

APPROACH: We co-delivered IMM training with UNDP to the institution's management, and advised on developing an IMM framework with impact indicators, materiality analysis, and a monitoring plan. The framework aligns the institution's public policies and green and social investment facilities with Cambodia's national priorities and SDG commitments, strengthening its readiness to engage international development agencies and impact investors.

CHALLENGE: How do we reshape a university's funding framework so academic research can translate into scalable solutions that address societal challenges?

APPROACH: We partnered with the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services at The Chinese University of Hong Kong to apply the Impact Measurement and Management (IMM) Framework across two funding schemes — the Knowledge Transfer Impact Project Fund and the Knowledge Transfer Venture Impact Fund. Supported 45 academic-led ventures across health tech, EdTech and social innovation to shape pitch-ready impact narratives.

  • Inspiring HKD 290m in government funding to improve living conditions for underprivileged households
    Curated and led the Big Little Things programme as Secretariat of Business for Social Good at Our Hong Kong Foundation. The programme was publicly credited by the then Secretary for Labour and Welfare as the inspiration for government action, prompting the HKSAR Government to grant a HKD 290 million fund that has since benefited 24,000 subdivided unit households across Hong Kong.
  • Saving HKD 30m energy cost and moving towards net zero goal
    Annual energy consumption in 2023 reduced by 8% compared to 2019, equivalent to a saving of about HKD 30 million, for an international property and hospitality group through our recommended retrofitting and retro-commissioning initiatives. Drove 26% carbon reduction over the same period by implementing climate strategies we developed for operations across Greater China, the US and Europe, setting them on a path to net-zero by 2045.
  • Achieving a training NPS of 80 and embedding ESG company-wide at a Leading Construction Enterprise
    Designed and delivered a company-wide ESG learning pathway for a Leading Construction Enterprise, moving ESG beyond compliance and into strategy and operations. Reached 600+ employees with an average training Net Promoter Score of 80, with participants reporting sharper understanding of ESG's strategic relevance to their roles, greater confidence in applying ESG principles to day-to-day decisions, and clearer alignment on priorities across functions and locations.
  • Uncovering 20% emissions reduction opportunity in the design of a new technology through LCA
    PIE conducted a comparative Environmental Life-cycle Assessment (LCA) of a new technology solution for the separation and recycling of post-consumer blended textile for a research institute. The research enabled the commercialisation of the new technology in ways that create lower environmental impact compared with existing industry practices and the effective communication of the competitive edge of the new technology to potential licensee .
