Challenging businesses to tackle pain-in-the-neck issues for grassroots community in Hong Kong
Book design is the art of incorporating the content, style, format, design, and sequence of the various components of a book into a coherent whole. In the words of Jan Tschichold, book design, "methods and rules upon which it is impossible to improve, have been developed over centuries. To produce perfect books, these rules have to be brought back to life and applied."
Visual aids are often used to help audiences of informative and persuasive speeches understand the topic being presented. Visual aids can play a large role in how the audience understands and takes in information that is presented.
THE CHALLENGE
Although Hong Kong is being known as one of the most affluent cities in the world, there are still many of the grassroots community struggle by the margin. The recent Hong Kong Poverty Situation Report showed that one in every seven people in Hong Kong lives with less than HKD 5,000 per month, which can hardly reach the normal living cost in Hong Kong. Beneath the face of prosperity, there are people struggling and losing hope for the future.

THE SOLUTION
In light of these life challenges, PIE Strategy cooperates with Our Hong Kong Foundation in developing the Big Little Things Innovation Challenge. Through this programme, we identify pain-in-the-neck issues in daily life of the grassroots community and invite businesses to innovate creative solutions for these issues. Businesses are given one-week time to develop solutions which are cost-effective and scalable, in order to create a greater impact in the community. By tackling these everyday hassles, we inspire hopes to the community.
THE IMPACT
As of June 2019, this programme has involved 10 corporate teams with 11 innovative solutions being developed to tackle the daily hassles facing by elderlies and people living in subdivided flats, such as rat infestation and high indoor temperature. Some of the solutions have been scaled up to benefit more people who are facing similar problems. As this programme continues, we believe we can create a genuine improvement to the community.
